Security operatives attached to the Nigeria-Benin joint security force have arrested three notorious bank robbers and killed six members of the gang in a gun duel.
The operatives drawn from the Lagos Command and the Benin Regional Police squad at Krake, Seme border, engaged the robbers in a shootout when they attempted to rob some banks and Bureau De Change operators at the Seme Border.
The security operatives were assisted by officials of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Immigration.
The bandits who were heavily armed had attempted to enter Nigeria but were repelled. They then attempted to unleash terror at the border through the sea. The force thus engaged them. Some abandoned their arms and ammunition and fled in boats.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni who visited the scene in the company of the Regional Director, Department of Police, Benin Republic, Ogouchoro Severin, the Customs Area Controller, Seme Border, Victor Dimka and the Nigerian Immigration Area Controller, Seme Border, Barko noted that intelligence report was received two weeks ago that some hoodlums were planning to raid some banks in Seme.
