An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday sentenced two women to 72 hours community service for fighting in public.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olagbegi Adelabu, sentenced Rashidat Amao,48, and Elizabeth Ajagbe,48, after they pleaded guilty.
“Having taken that you are guilty of the offence, this court hereby sentenced you to 72-hours community service and you are hereby warned from future like offences,’’ Olagbegi held.
The police had arraigned the accused traders in Rofo community in Odunguyan on a one-count charge of public fighting.
The Prosecutor, Cpl. Mary Ajiteru, told the court that the accused committed affray and conducted themselves in a disorderly manner on Oct.28 at 10 a.m. at Rofo Market Area in Ikorodu.
Ajiteru said that the accused fought because they had being having series of misunderstanding before that day.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 54 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The offenders were later taken to a nearby bush by the community service officers and handed a cutlass to clear the bushes.
