NYSC Nabs 7 With Fake Certificates

National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has arrested seven persons with fake NYSC certificates. Three of the suspects, who are currently using the certificates to work in financial institutions and bank, are on the run. Consequently, the remaining four suspects with fake NYSC Certificate of Exemption and Exclusion were yesterday handed over to the police for prosecution. The suspects are Olatunbosun Abolarin, Yusuf Adekunle, Akan Macaulay and Abdullahi.

The suspects told newsmen they paid money ranging from N20,000, N25,000, N40,000 and N60,000, to get the certificates.

Director of Certification, NYSC, Hudu Aliyu Taura, also told newsmen at the handing over in Abuja that the arrests were made possible through the cooperation of their employers, who alerted the scheme for verification of the certificates.

He disclosed that 17 certificates were found to be fake during the verification exercise carried out by the scheme, adding that the remaining 10 people and those on the run would soon be arrested.

Taura further said it had become necessary for employers of labour to cross-check with NYSC to ascertain the genuineness of certificate submitted to them by applicants.
