A lot of times, we think that we have the right ideas or ideology towards a thing or a phenomenon.
We get distressed–at least someone of us does, if we have to be any honest.
What really is value?
Is it money? Or fame? Is it a commodity of some sort? Or perhaps just an experience, whether simple or complex?
The answers would come slower than expected if any should prop up at any point.
I have usually wondered how satisfied I usually feel when I spend money. I find out usually that I am happy when I have a lot of it at a time. It is no surprise to realize how sad I become when I have so little of it at another point. You would notice the use of the phrases “at a point” and “at another point”. The truth is that they mean the same thing.
When I am faced with a situation that requires spending money, the lack of it brings sadness and the possession of it also brings temporal fulfillment because it solves something at the instant. Does this analogy in any way explain the value of money?
Take another instance– “friendship”. At times, when you need a companion, their lack would bring misery and consequent possession would result to happiness, or if u like- Fulfillment.
This might sound like blackmail, but imagine a scenario whereby you neither need the presence of that commodity you desperately want to buy or that friendship you crave, would value be lost? How can value really be measured?
Many people have argued that everything is relative, and I guess it would be easier to say that relativity best explains the situation of value. In other words, different people have different benchmark for value.
RUBBISH! That is like calling everything we don’t understand yet, (emphasis on the “yet”) a mystery even though the answer is obvious and inconspicuous.
Well, the truth is that I don’t have a proper yardstick for measuring value. This doesn’t in any way mean there isn’t one as I have tried to emphasize.
I am open-minded and would welcome any suggestions.
HOW WOULD YOU MEASURE VALUE?
COME ON! INDULGE ME.
NOTE: THIS WAS INTENDED TO BE A SHORT WRITE UP FOR OBVIOUS REASONS.
