Mark Shuts NASS, Summons IGP

SENATE President, David Mark, invoked his powers as the chairman of the National Assembly on Thursday, when he announced a shutdown of the National Assembly.

The Senate President was angered by an unprecedented invasion of the assembly complex by hooded anti-riot policemen, men of the State Security Services (SSS) and other uniformed men in battle ready gear.

The Senate President, who returned to the Senate chamber after a trouble-shooting session at the House of Representatives, announced the shutdown of the National Assembly.

“Due to the unfortunate incident which took place this morning, I have shut down the National Assembly till Tuesday next week; both the House of Representatives and the Senate. It’s unfortunate. We will invite the Inspector General of Police here next Tuesday also.

“You will recall that we had asked the service chiefs to be here. They were all here this morning, but I’ve explained to them what has happened and they will return here next Tuesday.
