Man Released in S.Africa Soccer Star Killing Case

Prosecutors say they have dropped charges against a man who was arrested in the killing of South African national soccer team captain Senzo Meyiwa.

State prosecution spokesman Nathi Mncube said Tuesday there is “insufficient evidence” to proceed with a case against Zenokuhle Mbatha, who was arrested two weeks ago and charged with murder and robbery in the star goalkeeper’s shooting death.

Mncube says Mbatha has been freed and didn’t appear in a court on Tuesday in order to protect him and his family. Police said they were searching for three suspects. No other arrests have been announced.
