The Senate President, David Mark has shut down the National Assembly as a direct fallout of the confusion that broke out at the Assembly complex when the Police and the Department of State Security Service attempted to prevent the Speaker of the House from entering the complex.
The Senate President, who was delayed from entering the complex for over an hour while the confusion lasted, announced the shutting down of the entire National Assembly till Tuesday at plenary.
A source at the National Assembly told DAILY POST that Mark took the decision after he was embarrassed by Members of the House of Representatives.
According to the source: “Senator Mark went to the green chamber to see Tambuwal, in apparent solidarity with the Speaker but he was shouted on and shoved; he was asked to get out of the chambers and that they do not know him. They said he never came out when they were locked outside the gate, and that it was unnecessary coming in to consult with the Speaker.”, the source said.
Though the House was still at an executive session at the time of this report, it is not clear what their reaction will be.
The shutting down of the National Assembly may have finally shut out any hope the president may have concerning the state of emergency extension approval he is seeking from the federal legislators.
