Customs Intercept 2,000 Cartons Of Frozen Chicken

The Nigerian Customs Service anti-smuggling special task force has destroyed 2,000 cartons of smuggled frozen turkey and chicken. It was gathered that the items, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N14million were seized from smugglers at Bakatari village along Abeokuta-Ibadan road during a patrol operation led by Assistant Comptroller Adamu Ibrahim Mohammed.

Our correspondent reports that destruction of the frozen poultry products which were smuggled into the country from Brazil took place at Arapaja dumping site in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State capital, under the supervision of Mr. Usman Buba, the Customs Deputy Controller for Oyo/Osun Area Command.
Buba said poultry products are contrabands and advised members of the public to stop consuming them.

“Consumption of imported poultry products is dangerous to the health of individuals not only due to the long period of storage, but also due to the chemicals used in its preservation and the long distance it covers before coming into the country.  This particular seizure is from Brazil, so you can imagine the distance it covered, and how long it took to come to this country,” he said.
