Unabated instances of armed robbery attack in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital is now causing residents of the area to sleep with one eye open. Residents say that no night passes without reported raid of parts of the town by armed robbers.
Those residing in old Poly Quarters, a 200 housing unit on Ganaja-Ajaokuta road on Sunday night had one of those encounters with the robbers.
A resident of the area, who would not disclose his name for security reasons, informed that for two hours, the residents were in constant fear as the robbers fired sporadically.
A source narrated that while the shooting was ongoing, other members of the gang were busy ransacking buildings even as distress call to the police could not yield any useful result.
According to some of the residents who were interviewed, it has become a daily occurrence in the capital city since Police Commissioner, Saidu Madawaki left the state, urging the new Commissioner to brace up to the unfortunate situation.
