Before We Exterminate Those Homosexuals – Ayobami Oyalowo

 John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Recently a lady (a brilliant Muslim lady) did the unthinkable. She openly declared herself to be gay. Twitter immediately went on overdrive. I went through a lot of timelines to see how people reason and I was amused as to how fickle and mobbish today’s Homo sapiens are. Clearly we have made very little progress in our thinking. Most people are not far from the original Homo erectus. To regard some persons as crude is to insult crudeness.

Religious people are the most unforgiving mob you can ever run afoul of. While I don’t claim expertise on religion or theology, I know religious people tell the rest of us that love is the central theme of their religion. While Christians talk about love, Muslims don’t fail to remind us that Islam means peace. Well, we shall see as we go along. I won’t bore you with the legal aspects of the gay law as lawyers like Ayo Sogunro have done justice to that aspect.

Let me quickly state here that I am a married heterosexual male and I don’t see why the natural order should be discarded. This passage readily comes to mind;? ?Romans 9:15-16

For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.??Let me tell you a true life story. On September 7, 1994 I re-dedicated my life and accepted Jesus into my life as my personal Lord and saviour (Of course I have had my rising and falling along the way). But at this period in my early 20s, I was literally burning for The Lord and I had a friend. Her name was Taiwo. She hated God and was very angry at God. Why? She was from a poor family who had done all they could to pay for her O’ Levels. She passed after few attempts but couldn’t pass the JAMB exams and therefore could not proceed to the university. So she felt God was unfair and therefore was undeserving of her worship.

What did I do? I didn’t make fun of or reject her, rather I brought her closer, prayed with and for her. Also, I did my best to help her in her studies. Two years later, she gained admission and guess what? She also gave her life to Christ too and her hatred for God was sorted. What is the moral of my story?? ?You cannot judge anyone until you are in their shoes. I narrated that story to buttress my next point. Currently, I am friends with two ladies with similar stories to each other. Both of them were deflowered through rape by men whom they had trusted as either family friends or even Uncles. One of them is almost totally healed but one is not. They are both 27 years of age. The one who isn’t healed grew to loathe and distrust men and was subsequently lured into lesbianism. Today, a few trusted people are trying to help her get healed. But along the line, she met a man and for the first time, fell in love with a man. Guess what? The man got her pregnant and then denied responsibility. She almost lost her life in the process, leading to a miscarriage that almost cost her her life.

Today she is back in her shell. I pose this to those religious zealots: should we chop off her neck? I am sure if we kill her, our excess crude account will improve and we will have 24 hours supply of electricity?

Who made you a judge over your fellow man? Some dude asked me on twitter what we should do to gays. Here is my answer: I don’t know what you want to do, but as for me, if I come across anyone who is close enough to share secrets with me, I wont judge or condemn him/her. Rather, I will find out his/her story and if I can help, I will. But most especially, I will lead anyone I can to salvation and do all I can to get them healed should they have psychological issues that needs addressing.

If the best we could offer is hate and bile, how are we better than barbarians? Another set of twitter holies said you mustn’t talk about your sin, just keep it private (the theology you see online, even God will marvel). But if people don’t talk, how can you be of help if you are willing to help? It is written in Luke 19:10??For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

Jesus came to seek and save the lost for he says in John 3:17;

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.??The message of the cross is to seek and save the lost not to condemn anyone. I don’t agree with the sin of homosexuality, just as I equally disagree with stealing, fornication, lying etc. All sinners shall find themselves in hell, so why should adulterers or a thief sit in judgment over homosexuals?

To conclude the story of the lady that became a lesbian due to the wickedness of men, today she is totally asexual but I am praying that God will complete His work in her. She is yet to be able to trust another man ever again and yes, she is a Muslim Yoruba lady. Of course I pray she meets Christ soonest and I can assure you the Holy Spirit is almost done in that area, Amen.

If our best bet is to judge and hate those who are different from us, how do we win their trust to the point where we can help them? I have been able to help different categories of people, in this instance, a lesbian and an apostate because I was available and I was a friend, not a judge. While I was clear enough that I  don’t agree with their ways, I was also conscious of the fact that I can’t play God, rather I am a vessel that may be used by God to bring healing and salvation to those who need it.

The word “Church” has its roots in the word “Ecclesia”, which means “the called out ones”. We are called to seek and save the lost, not to send fire and brimstone to them. Among those calling for fatwa on gays, you will find philanderers, liars, back biters, those who watch pornography (including the ones involving lesbians). Some even indulge in anal and oral sex, yet they are quick to point gays to hell. Who told you some sins are more permissible than the others?

1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

For the Christians forming Talibans on twitter, I have a few words for you in Luke 13:3

I tell you, Nay:but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
