“He who comes into equity must come with clean hands”
The people’s democratic party is a party on a mission to self-destruct, whether the passionate curses frustrated Nigerians continually place on them finally gained potency I can’t say but the law of karma is certainly at work here.
It is rather unfortunate that whenever the self-styled biggest party in Africa is embroiled in its turmoil they drag the rest of Nigeria along and we fall for their antics. They make problems that oscillated out of their avarice, greed, and chop-I-chop politics, a national problem the rest of Nigeria should be saddled with.
The political standoff between President Jonathan and governor Amaechi is not only about the 2015 elections, it is about a corrupt governor in his last tenure scared of leaving Goodluck Jonathan in power. Life for the governor after the expiration of his tenure is something he intends to cement now while he still has the paraphernalia of political suzerainty in Rivers and the chairmanship of a faction in the governors forum at his beck and call. The crisis started as a dispute over oil wells between Rivers and Bayelsa State, the war-like rhetoric of Amaechi and his somewhat disrespectful stance was something President Jonathan didn’t take lightly. It appears president Jonathan used his powers as president to resolve to issue in favour of his home state of Bayelsa which the Rivers governor didn’t like.
The feud reached its crescendo when Rotimi Amaechi teamed up with some northern oligarchs to pressurize president Jonathan into not running in 2015 using the governors forum as a base. Goodluck Jonathan expected stiff competition enroute 2015 but he certainly didn’t expect it coming from the Niger-Delta.
There is no denying that President Jonathan has used the powers of his office to harass and intimidate governor Amaechi stating otherwise would be sheer hypocrisy and a deliberate affront on the truth. The invisible hands of President Jonathan were visible in the rivers state house of assembly wrestling fight[we know the story],recently police officers acting on orders from ‘above’ blocked Amaechi’s route to the government house with patrol vehicles purchased by his government, quite ironical. All through this crisis Governor Amaechi has been playing a me vs the world game with Nigerians, he even went as far as saying Nigerians should fight for him. When the going was good he never called on Nigerians to fight for him, when he was spending lavishly on exotic private jets with Rivers oil money the average Nigerian was never on his mind. Now he is portraying himself as victim so as to win empathy from Nigerians, I believe we as a people have suffered enough to fall for this crude, unrefined tactics. Governor Amaechi is a ranking member of the pre-Bendal political class that has looted the resources of this country, if not why is he scared of the EFCC investigating him? Wise up my fellow Nigerians, the enemy of our enemy is not always our friend. Rotimi Amaechi is motivated by only one factor- vice-presidential slot that’s all.
