“All izz well”

One of the films I have gladly watched more than a couple of times and might still watch a few more times is the Bollywood production titled “3 IDIOTS” starring Amir Khan, Kareena Kapor amongst others. Although I am not a fan of Indian films, I got curious when upon request for some nice films to watch, my friend and some of his neighbours kept on about this particular film. I grudgingly agreed to a transfer of the film to my external hard disk and I must say I did not regret the decision because I learnt so much from the film and want to share some of these lessons with you.

For a proper understanding of the lessons listed below I advise that you get a copy of the film- “3 IDIOTS” but be warned that it has a tendency to change your perspective.

1.       GET “USEFUL” AND RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, NO MATTER THE SOURCE.

Whenever RANCHODDAS CHANCHAD gets sent away from any class, he simply gets into another class and continues his learning process from there.  You might wonder the wisdom in this but think of this, since signed up on twitter, what new thing have you learnt from you the high number of people you follow or from your followers.

2.       YOUR MIND IS “ONLY AS POWERFUL” AS YOU MAKE IT

Have you ever thought of a person who can write with both hands simultaneously? Well Professor Virus Sahastrabuddhe, director of the school in the film trained himself to write with both hands simultaneously. You might say it happens only in films but a former president of the United States, James Garfield is reputed as having an ability of writing with both hands simultaneously and IN different languages. How about that for the power of the human mind?

3.       STAY HONEST EVEN AT THE RISK OF BEING DISAPOINTED

What will you do at an interview if you are told that they’re willing to give you the job but an amount of dishonesty (aka diplomacy) would be required from you in the course of the job? Will you agree to be dishonest just to get the job or will you stand your ground on honesty and risk disappointment? Meet, RAJU RASTOGI, a young man in dire need of a job who refused to “bend” his honest nature even when that was all that is required for him to get the job. Ask yourself this honest question, what would you have done in a similar situation?

4.      PURSUE EXCELLENCE! With EXCELLENCE comes SUCCESS

Be excellent at what you do be it in sports, music, writing, photography, comedy, law or any other field of human endeavour and the world respect and honour you. Have you ever tried to wonder what the difference exists between sportsmen like Messi, Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps and many of their peers. I believe it is nothing more than the fact that they are EXCEL-lent.  The main character in this film- RANCHODDAS CHANCHAD amply summarises this in his maxim “Follow excellence and success will chase you pants down”.

5.  THE ONLY COMPETITION YOU REALLY HAVE IS YOURSELF

The greatest mistake anybody can do to himself/herself is to measure success by what others do. Do not seek to be the first or the best amongst others. Rather seek to be the best that you can ever be. It has a greater chance of pushing you towards your potential.

There are many more lessons that I learnt from this film but I’d keep them for another day while you share your own lessons from the film. So if you’ve watched the film what lessons did you learn from the 3 IDIOTS? Share them here!

  1. Five very important lessons, Five of life’s essential principles, Five morals that more or less separate the successful from the also-rans. Five lessons we must all learn, Five principles we must all apply, Five morals we must all employ if indeed we desire to stand-out from the crowd and be exceptional in whatever we do.

Thanks for this Gbenga, this is a word in due season.

  2. And i also learnt that in every situation ‘ALL IS WELL’.

  3. Nix1 Gbenga more glucose to ur cerebral cortex, But I will like to add this, start doing something no matter how idiocy it looks(@ d beginning) then get it improve to excellence.
