#SomethingFresh: The Well – by Ike Amadi @IkeAmadi

While summer holidaying in Nigeria, I had the opportunity of drawing water from the well and thus observed certain things.

Before I go into my observations, let us quickly run through the steps of drawing water from the well: you position yourself very well, let the bucket down into the well by releasing the rope, then make sure the bucket is filled after which you pull it out of the well with the water in it.

Let us then relate it to our lives. First we position ourselves very well to do something. Now the process of letting down the bucket into the well can be likened to amassing knowledge or trainings.

And then comes the very interesting part of drawing the water out. This can also be likened to trying to make use of your gifts and talents or doing something with the potentials you’ve been given or the position you have attained in life.

Observe, therefore, that it is only when you try to pull out the bucket that you will ascertain whether or not you have sufficient water in your bucket.

This is evident in the case of say a young student who goes to intern in a company. When exposed to opportunities to use the knowledge he has hitherto acquired, he becomes aware whether he is well-equipped for the task.

In the case where he is not well equipped, he now knows areas he needs to improve upon.

Many of us have been letting our buckets down but haven’t tried to pull it up. It is time to pull that bucket up.

Now let us take it a step further.

Have you ever come across dry wells – wells with no water?

‘Many of us have been letting our buckets down but haven’t tried to pull it up. It is time to pull that bucket up.’

‘If you are using what God is giving you and dipping into your well you are assured that the next day you will find fresh water in the well again…and again… and again.’

‘When you take out time to wait upon God for a refreshing, your well never runs dry.’

You’ll observe that it wasn’t so from the beginning. The well became dry possibly because several people have come drawing water incessantly from it or because it wasn’t deep enough to support the volume of water drawn from it.

Perhaps you are a writer, a singer, a leader, preacher, pastor, designer, teacher or a business man and you have been enabling others benefit from your wealth of wisdom and experience. You’ll notice that it is possible for your well to run dry if not allowed to refill.

Something however happens the following day. Those who go early in the morning observe that the level of the water has risen.

Every morning is a fresh beginning. Whenever you allow the refreshing grace to rest upon you, your well becomes full again.

You wake up each morning to a new well full of fresh water; full with fresh possibilities. It’s your opportunity to dip into that well and use it for the glory of God for that day, If you are using what God is giving you and dipping into your well you are assured that the next day you will find fresh water in the well again…and again… and again. When you take out time to wait upon God for a refreshing, your well never runs dry.

The WELL is not to be blamed, if it doesn’t give as much water as desired: U better dig deep!

If U dig ur WELL in the raining season, u just might be deceived that u have hit the water level: Dig at the right time.

It’s so good to have a WELL with abundant WATER to draw from (Earthly): But imagine a HONEY WELL! (Eternal)

    Nice piece Ike. Warm Regards.

This struck me, and it struck me hard! O what a life man lives without inspiration from the divine! O what darkness pervades the soul of man without his creation. This for me is a word in due season, it’s like light displacing the prevalent darkness in my heart. Light, Understanding, Eyes opened.

Ike, thanks you so very much for this! God bless.
