JUST BEFORE YOU HURL THAT STONE #opesays

Published:19 Oct, 2012

Whoop! It’s Friday again. I hope you had a lovely week. Yours truly is just here to tell you something before you hurl that stone. Sometimes in life, we are often tempted to judge others based on the facts we see. But we forget that nobody is perfect and you may just be the one making your own mistake the next day. Would you want to be judged then? How will it feel if you had to have a taste of your own bitter medicine? Life is not black and white. There are several shades of grey and you may be sometimes tempted to see only your own shade of grey.

Remember that person you

judged recently? We all have.

No one is innocent.

The almighty question is can you confidently say you know that person? Can you see their pains and feel their inadequacy? Only the person who wears the shoe knows where it pinches. Have you walked a mile in their shoes ? If no, then you have no right to judge. Everyone is fighting their own unique battle. You never know what people are going through.

Some of us use our religion as an excuse to be intolerant, condemn and judge. But we forget that if God were to judge us the way we judge others, no one will be left standing. I always like to say nobody holy pass. This is true.

You are not perfect yourself, then

why blame others for their

imperfections?

What’s funny about judging someone is that most people do not see the complete picture, before hurling the stone of judgement. Have you ever paused to think that I may just be wrong about this person? You may not be seeing the complete picture because you are looking at the person from the wrong perspective. It is wrong to judge people from this standpoint.

I personally have made my mistakes and embraced my humanity. Before I am tempted to judge, I always remember that I am not perfect myself. I am still a work in progress. We all are. The right thing to do is to completely know someone first, before having an opinion about that person. But we human beings get this process backwards. Lionel Messi said recently, “I can’t speak about Mourinho because I don’t know him”. I think that’s an attitude to adapt. “Judge not that you may not be judged “. No better commandment than this.  So before you hurl that stone, do pause and think and take everything into consideration. I leave you with this quote:

That girl you called a slut today is a virgin.

That girl you called fat, she’s starving herself.

That 15 year old girl you see carrying her baby, she was raped at 13.

That woman you said was talkative is so because she is lonely.

You think you know them? Guess what? You don’t.

You never know what people are going through so pause before you criticize, judge or mock others.

Everyone is fighting their own unique war

Peace

  • Great piece. I love it.

I pray to practice the above.

    God bless you.

  • Amen.Thank you for reading Ike.You rock !

  • What’s left to add to this commendable piece? This is a call to reconsideration and re-appraisal before pronouncement of judgement on people/cases we know so little about. Within everyone of us is a sun shinning with radiance and warmth, and if only people would look beyond the cold and dark cloud covering, albeit temporarily, the sunshine in others, the world would be a better place for us all. I wish not that people walk in my shoes, for that would put me at the risk of continuing my journey bare-footed, I only wish that they take a stroll down the path destiny carved for me, before hurling the stone loosely held in their hand.

Well done Ope, another well written piece.

  • With many within the technology world saying Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has stopped innovating while Google’s Android and other rivals are gaining momentum, it’s time for the company to deliver and prove that it is still a dominant player in the increasingly competitive marketplace. The annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), starting on Monday in San Francisco, could be the platform for Apple to regain lost glory.
