Curator’s Note: Dr. Adetola Taylor is married to Dr. Seyi Taylor and they have both been part of our New Media drive for support for citizens in need of critical financial help for terminal diseases. She sent this letter to me today about a Doctor that at least two followers of mine on twitter mooted would need our help. I need for you to read this and help if you have the means to. If you don’t, the least you can do is pass the message on. Life is full of circles. ~ JJ. @Omojuwa
My name is Dr Adetola Taylor. In the past weeks i have observed with great joy and a renewed hope in humanity how ordinary Nigerians have stood up in unity and support to save lives using crowd sourcing via social media. I have been a part of this movement even though I have never met any of the beneficiaries before.
Then last week I received a broadcast message and as is my usual manner, deleted it. Then I got another and another and another. Curiosity took over and I decided to read one. It turns out that it involved my friend and senior colleague Dr Mike Adeyemi. A consultant in Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery.
You see, your undergraduate medical years were incomplete if you had not met Dr Mike. You needed him and he was always there for you. Be it Part I, II, III, IV OR V and even Post graduate exams. It did not matter if Dr Mike had his own exams coming up, he would make out an hour or two to explain that thing you needed to you. I daresay I and countless other people owe our medical and dental degrees to him.
Now this is my burden. Dr Mike is in urgent need of a new kidney. He had a transplant 4 years ago in India. But because of poor post operative care ad management, the transplant has failed and the body is beginning to reject it. To my utmost shock he told me he has been trying to raise money to go for the new transplant since March. He needs a total of 6.5M. He has raised on his own 1.5M so he needs 5 Million naira to enable him make the trip. According to him, the breakdown of the money are as follows:
Pre-operative investigations, donor matching and prepping N1M
Surgery and Travel N4M
Post operative care in India for 3months and
Immunosuppressive drugs for 6months N1.5M
I therefore crave your indulgence to please help us raise this fund. From #1,000 to #10,000. Nothing is going to waste. An account has been set up for him by his colleagues in LUTH. Whatever questions you need answered, you can reach me on 08023020973. I will also attach his medical report and history as sent to me by him.
For the thousands of lives that Dr Mike has saved both colleagues and patients please let us do this for him.
