#STRETCH: Delegate to Elevate – @Omotoola

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome to a brand new week! and its yours for the taking.

I am very excited to write you this morning, and the reason is this, yay!!! Its a holiday.  A lot of us will sleep longer than necessary. But when you’re up! You’ll be able to read my write up a bit slowly.

I got up @ 2am today, thankful for what God had helped us accomplish @ the STRETCHCENTER in a very short while.

And I wondered @ my foolishness of wanting to do it all alone for so long. Imagine, thinking, strategizing, implementing and executing all at once.

Doing it all alone, a foolish behaviour especially of africans has collapsed otherwise would have been prosperous ventures.

For years I had run the organisation as a one my show. Doing everything alone and not asking for help until I snapped and my health broke down.

Yes there were mentors and professional advisors I spoke to from time to time, but only after it was clear I could not do this myself.

Sometimes just being paranoid that people may not understand what vision I was trying to achieve. So I’d better do it myself.

The Dream was to build a human development enterprise with multiple platforms and impact Projects. Speaking, Training, Reading, Enlightening, Testing for CHange.

And so I pursued each project like a mono-maniac on a mission: it was too much for one person.

The results:
Mental disorder, Missed appointments and meetings and delays in reports.

I was liberated first by watching other people and more by listening to what business owners with several business units do.

They DELEGATE their weaknesses to professionals and focus on Strengthening their STRENGHTS.

Like my mentor RDJ says, ‘we ask for help not because we are weak, we ask so we can remain strong’

I must have heard that a number of times, but did not consciously put it to use until recently.

In July, I asked my friend @sesewa to help me hire an administrative intern that required minimal supervision had several other traits required to Weaken my areas of weakness in the Interest of the Organisation.

I also spoke to another lady friend with whom I had collaborated on a project, to help me find someone like herself.

Tinuola Makinde and Kemi Alli, resumed on the same day.
with clearly defined Job descriptions( thanks to the Goldman Sachs Scholarship for Women Enterprise Leaders@ EDC), project and person specific, they started work.

In 3days, I was confronted with my crazy schedule in excel format and diarised. With little glance I realised what had been wrong.

I assigned daily tasks to each person and supervised. I also had more time freed up to do other things that had been stalled.

it was a liberating moment, knowing you could entrust work to the hands of young women and it will be done. That I could finally Close from work @ 5pm and leave my Laptop @ the office? Without worrying about what had not been done.

I was free to take up more challenging roles and fulfill life long dreams. I had time to honour more speaking engagements, and explore the use of my voice.

I did more voice-over jobs for organisations and voiced documentaries, I had time to be there with some of my friends and know them better.

I had the time to dance salsa, swim deep and Yes Watch movies again.

I was free, to volunteer to assist other on their projects and provide professional counsel.

I was free to feature in a short film as an actress. It will be showcased @ a competition in the US.

I was free to start work on my song in studio. Be sure it will inspire you once its out.

I was free to take on more Comp ere  Jobs.

It was a liberating moment.

I thought, what had I deprived my self of all these while.

Wish I had asked earlier.

I also have more time to be a Babe, do my hair, wear my heels and look absolutely fabulous. I smile each time I see myself in the mirror and recall what a work wreck I was.

So that why I am writing YOU today.

Take Stock of You! Are you using your best assets?

Outsource your weaknesses and STRENGHTEN YOUR STRENGHTS.

My Voice( Speaking, Singing, Persuading, Voice Overs, Compering, Acting), ability to network, Convince and the power of influence are my greatest strengths.

This week alone I have 5 speaking engagements and will be Mastering  one business meeting.

As I focus on these and get Help in other areas, I soar.

This holiday, take stock of your Strengths and Weaknesses and ASK for help.

To your phenomenal greatness.
