“ZOOM MOBILE PAY US OUR MONEY, WE WORKED FOR IT”
My Name is John Peters I am a former staff of Zoom Mobile telecommunication company with Head quarters located @ 8a Adeola Odeku Victoria Island Lagos, Zoom is a CDMA company owned by former senator Annie Okonkwo from Ojoto in Anambra state. I want to bring this to the notice of Nigerians what Zoom Telecommunication company is doing to us and nothing is being done to call them to order. It started as far back as 2009 the company slashed salaries by 30% in the name of economic crunch we know this to be lies being told by the company because we are the ones making the money, the problem is from the chairman because of his quest for power he withdraws money from the companies account at will to sponsor his governorship campaign which was coming up in Anambra state at the time which he lost and still goes on the same manner with his re election campaign in the senate while the staff suffers for it, and still owes us salaries, a times 3months to pay one the non payment of salaries on time continued like that till the 2nd day of july 2010. 40% of the staff were laid off without some months salary but were later paid after several months, I was amongst the lucky few that remained with a further salary slash of 5%. The latest one happened on the 1st day of December 2011 the company gave most of its staff what they termed compulsory leave without pay and some were given disengagement letters, the funny thing is that throughout 2011 we were paid only 4 months January, February, March and August salaries. The salaries come like I said earlier 3months to pay one. We worked for a quarter and got paid for one month. They gave us this letter and a clearance form which says that account has being mandated to pay us all due us once we fill, at the end of the form there’s a column that says we should sign that we have been paid which most of us refused to sign because it looked criminal and dubious. We filled only the column of what is being owed us neglecting the last part that says we have being payed. Outside the 7months salary that is remaining, housing, leave and other benefits are being owed also, the Abuja office tried using Festus Keyamo to sue d company but most of us can’t even afford 20k each he demanded, they went to labor but were not united enough for the struggle which they left without achieving anything. I wrote personally to Kayode Ajulo to help us out but he didn’t respond to my mail on facebook, I tried Premium Times newspaper to at least let Nigerians hear our voice and know what is really happening in Zoom. I read about how Labour and government fought for Airtel staff, Intercontinental bank disengaged 1500 staffs due to their deal with Access Bank and they were paid off immediately. This is what is happening in Zoom and the management have refused to communicate with us, in one of the meetings in lagos when the issue of unpaid salaries and entitlement was mentioned the chief commercial officer Ms. Tawa said that Zoom is not a charity organization that they will pay staff salaries and entitlements. That when they are ready and have the money readily available they will but the top management still receives its salaries while we lavish in pains. Some of us, used personal lawyers asking for our money still the company isn’t saying anything, they kept us in the dark on our own money. All I want is for this to be news, for Nigeria to hear our plight we don’t want our jobs restored back, we want our salaries and entitlement paid to us at once not on monthly basis so we can use it to start something of our own most of us cannot even afford 3 square meals or pay for our hospital treatment, pay school fees for our kids, take good care of our families, most of us have gone back to the village or staying with friends because we cannot afford to pay our rents while the company owes us thousands and millions in Naira. I am not a politician that wants to tarnish anyone’s image, this is a true story and fact anybody can investigate further if he/she so wishes.
