I met Oke through one of my friends in my first year in OAU. He had this charm that attracted people to him, bees to nectar. Oke had a story for every occasion; a smile for every situation. That smile behind that tiny voice is what many remember.
Later, I heard that he had diabetes, that one of his toes was amputated. Oke looked well. I felt this sadness, wondered how the sad things happens to the best people. I did not know what to do. Oke’s grades got worse; the wound would not heal; it got bigger. Oke disappeared. Until last night when I saw him on Linda Ikeji’s blog. Now, I know what to do.
Oke is now a couch potato. His legs, heavy bags of stones. They cannot move him. He cannot move them. Even then, that same old look on his face remains. That look that says “It is well.” Oke is a well of optimism, always brimming, never empty. I am so sure that’s why he is still here with us.
Oke has been diagnosed with Diabetes type 1 and 2. The wound on his toe has taken his feet. It threatens to take his life. Oke needs your help. Oke needs 5million naira for an operation in India. Oke needs this money fast.
There are some things you do not choose in life; the family you are born into; the country you are born into; your genes; the sicknesses passed through those genes. Oke cannot change these. You cannot change this but, there is something you can change. Something you can save; Oke’s legs; his life.
There are two things that you can do to save Oke:
Donate: You can donate any amount to save Oke’s life. 5million naira is a long way. It would be great if one person gives that. But 5m is just 5,000 people giving N1,000 each. Please try to give a minimum of a N1,000. More is better.
