At least one man has been confirmed dead, many more injured and several arrests made as the Nigerian police and allegedly hired thugs of the Lagos State Government and the Lekki Concession Company clamped down on protesters.
They had come out to march against the implementation of tolls on the Lekki Epe express way but the government had different ideas. Tear gas calisters, black marias and thuggery were the order of the day. The thugs have since warned of dire consequences if the people come again to march in protest against a decision of the government they feel is inimical to their means of livelihood. Mr. Wole Akala, Chairman of Lekki Residents Associatio, Benson Uwatse, Emeka Ndu,Okey Nwakwesi are allegedly currently being detained at the Maroko Police station along with other protesters.
